Christian Ethos

St Michael and All Angels Church.jpg The school is a central focus in the village of Awliscombe and we enjoy excellent relationships with the local village community including our parish church St Michael and All Angels, which is next door to the school.   We are a Church of England Voluntary Aided (VA) school and our ‘Church School’ status is important to us.   We serve our whole community through faith providing a happy, friendly, safe, caring and stimulating environment for all children. Religious education is taught in accordance with the customs and practice of the Church of England.  We have a daily Christian based service of Collective Worship which is an important focus of our day, this is held in our local church once a week.  As a ‘Voluntary Aided’ school the majority of our governors are Foundation Governors, who are appointed by the church.  These governors meet regularly to ensure that the Christian distinctiveness of our school is maintained and developed. Many of our governors are also parents or grandparents of children in the school. The governors play a vital role in supporting both children and staff, they provide a strategic lead and help to maintain the happy, purposeful atmosphere.

The Anglican Schools report (June 2008) stated that :

“The distinctiveness and effectiveness of Awliscombe Primary as a Church of England school are Good.  The committed leadership of the head teacher with the full support of the wider school community is ensuring the school is well placed to increase still further its good reputation.”
