PTFA

Welcome to the web page of the Awliscombe Primary School PTFA (Parent Teachers and Friends Association).

Important PTFA Diary Dates

16th March 6 – 8p.m., Family Bingo, Village Hall

This is always a fun, popular event for the whole family to come along to.  Mrs Clarke is kindly donating a variety of pocket money toys,  and of course there will be the usual
offering of chocolate!

22nd March – Clothes for a Cause – also now takes books. Price per kilo has gone  up – so the more the merrier!  Time to start emptying your  wardrobes, drawers, bookcases and lofts!

We are hoping to have a sale  of books and children’s clothes, including second hand school uniform day  before.  The sale will be run by the  School Council, so please bag up your children’s clothes separately and mark  them for the sale if you are happy for them to be put on sale before the  collection.  Thank you.

24th March morning., Honiton Cake Stall

Requests for donations will be  distributed the week before.  Thanks in  anticipation!

The PTFA organises social and fund raising events throughout the year, ranging from after-school coffee and cakes to family bingo and quiz nights. Although all parents and teachers are by definition members of the PTFA, the association is organised by a committee which is voted in at the AGM each September.

The committee holds meetings about once a month, usually at the Awliscombe Inn. All parents and supporters are very welcome and meetings are open. So come along and join in – even if just for a drink and a chat. Information about meetings is included in the school newsletter and on the PTFA notice board in the school foyer.

The PTFA plays a crucial role in supporting the school by raising much needed funds for a wide variety of school activities, such as: providing the funds for various small but important bits of kit like tabards for the school sports teams, the much loved Star of the Week certificates and crackers for the Christmas dinner; subsidising the annual visiting theatre group and raising funds towards big ticket items such as the recent refurbishment of the school playground and the acquisition of a portable stage for the school. A long-standing project is providing safe climbing equipment for the children.

In addition, the PTFA makes an important contribution towards the social life of the school, by providing tea and coffee for school events, organising family bingo and skittles nights, decorating the school for Christmas and arranging the annual Christmas Bazaar. We also hold one big fund raising event each year, a quiz night, auction of promises or, in 2011, a fashion show.

Being part of the PTFA is a fun way of making a serious contribution to the school and ensuring that our children have access to things that fall outside the school budget. To support the PTFA you can join the committee or just attend meetings, offer to help on particular events, attend the PTFA functions or contribute in some other way: ours is a small school and we are always looking for donations, whether of time, ideas, cakes, raffle ticket prizes or money (the PTFA is a charity and donations can be Gift Aided).

If you would like to get involved or help out in any way, please contact the Chair of the PTFA via the school office or by email: ptfa@awliscombe-primary.devon.sch.uk
